Tuesday - Unearth our "Mummy Apples" and finish the lab started last Wednesday.

Wednesday - Teacher conference day - Enjoy your time with your children.

Thursday - Spend some time discussing all the things you are thankful for and don't eat too much.

Friday - Spend the day trying to find a good "Black Friday" deal and enjoy your children as much as I do.

I am thankful for your children and the wonderment they show in their quest for knownlege.  Happy Thanksgiving!  V

November 17, 2008 - November 21, 2008

Monday - Read pages 42 - 47 dealing with plate boundaries and the break up of Pangaea.

Tuesday - go over the plate boundary material answer the first 10 questions on page 50 together orally and then write them out for homework.

Wednesday - Since our students are studying Egypt and mumification we are going to collect data about mummification. I have a demonstration we do dealing with mummifying apples.

Thursday - 1/2 day for students parent conferences in the afternoon and evening.  We will take a practice ELA state exam today to see how we are doing 2 months before the actual test.

Friday - 1/2 day for student parent conferences.  We will have a guest speaker, Mr. Jeffrey Smith, who will talk about GEOTHERMAL energy

November 10, 2008 - November 14, 2008

Monday - Last class day to work on Scavenger Hunts and project activities.

Tuesday - Veterans' Day - Honor our Veterans

Wednesday - In class read pages 33-39 and introduce vocabulary

Thursday - Quiz #9 from above     questions dealing with boundaries will NOT BE TESTED on this quiz, they will be given the answers to use as study guides for our next quiz

Friday -  Today the students will write their final copy of the letter they wrote in ELA earlier this week in science class.  The students need to realize Language Arts do not stop when you leave room 111.  While they are doing this one at a time we will play a hangman activity as a review. http://www.quia.com/hm/457772.html

I am still working with the "Quia Group" to fix the problem with the scavenger hunts.  I retyped all of them and still get correct answers marked wrong, yet they can still get "You Win Certificates" if they do get the correct answers.  I will continue this quest until all things are corrected on the "Quia" end.  Thank you for your patience.

November 3, 2008 - November 7, 2008

Monday - Go over the 10 weeks' test and work on the continental drift maps we started with Dr. Wegener on Friday.

Tuesday/Wednesday  One of these two days Mrs. Rickert will come in and teach BUSINESS LETTER writing.  The students will write a business letter to Dr. Wegener thanking him for coming and asking him for more information about continental drift.  The other day will be used to finish up their maps and begin the quarter 2 mini-projects involving internet scavenger hunts and other earth science activities. (Language Arts does not stop when you walk out the door of room 111, Mrs. Rickert's room).

Friday - to be determined.

October 27, 2008  - October 31, 2008

Monday - get back quiz #8 and go over it.  Remind students to be
observant, (making sure each has a Pop quiz #2 study guide
is the reason for observance here) Go over the questions on
               page 32.

Tuesday - Pop Quiz #2

Wednesday – Catch up day, what ever needs to get done, gets done
(owed work, if someone owes something) Those with all
their work done may use one of my computers to review
for the 10 weeks’ test tomorrow.

Thursday - 10 weeks' test based on quizzes 1-8 and pop quiz #1
(Remember quiz 1 showed you had a brain, so now you
                  have to use it.)

Friday - Alfred Wegener comes to visit. During his presentation the
students will be taking notes for future information and             a Writing On Demand exercise.  They will eventually write him
a letter thanking him for the information he gave them as well
as asking any questions they might have.

October 20, 2008 - October 24, 2008

Monday – Review all the vocabulary introduced in text pages 16 to 24
( a vocabulary handout was handed out)

Tuesday - Read pages 25-27 and do the 5 questions on page 27. This
will be done as a “Share and Pair” lesson in groups of 2.
Each group will only have one set of answers for the
questions.  (This is a good reading strategy and works well
               according to brain based research.

Wednesday - Watch a video on Continental Drift. Go over questions
the pairs did yesterday and discuss. For homework
read pages 28-32 in our textbook, on their own this
time.  These pages are the precursor to our guest
                     speaker next Friday.

Thursday - Quiz #8 administered, based on the vocabulary actually
introduced about 2 weeks’ ago.  25 questions (see study
                 study guides above)

Friday – Reread pages 28-32 as a share and pair group, going over the
vocabulary on pages 28-32, (Pangaea, continental drift, fossil)
then begin writing out the answers to the questions on page
             32  1-4.

I advised the students today that if they needed to finish any of their graphs, they could choose one of the following options:

1. come to me during Pull Out 9th period and finish them

2. let me know they wish to stay after school with me on a Monday or a Thursday

(I need to know their intention to stay as I have 11 students who stay with me anyway and only have room to take 5 more on any given day, so if they ask I may tell them to stay the next time as I have a full house.)
